Would you say you have a role model that influences you with your style?
Pull-Quote: "I'm not shy to be who i am, or experiment with other styles of fashion, it's only an identity".
Pulle-Quote: "I think people should take their inspirations from music and show it in their clothes and see what creation they make."
From a fan's point of view music offers a lot inspirtaion for the clothes we decide to wear what inspires peaople to experiment with their identity. Some fans see their favourite artist having a particular style and try to copy them in a sense to try and be like them as they are their role model or just to feel closer to the artist.
Depending on what genre of music an individual listens to depends on what they would feel comfortable in and what they feel is acceptable for them to wear. We caught up with some music lovers who regulary go to gigs and read up a lot on fashion and this is what their views were on the music industry influencing the latest fashion trends.
"My fashion in influenced a lot by the music industry and i am constantly listening to my iPod and reading magazines. In the future i hope to become a fashion stylist or a designer so to help me fulfil my dream i find inspiration from the artists as they aren't afraid to be themselves and have their own identity. Their music say a lot in the lyrics so to show that on stage the artist needs to create a scene through their clothes and show the emotion and style they feel is appropriate. I wouldn't say i have a set 'style' to what i wear on a daily basis, if i like certain clothes i will wear them. I shop a lot in charity shops as i like to wear the vintage original look.
Sometimes i will take two seperate styles influenced by two different artists and try to combine them into one style so it is a 'one of a kind' look. I'm not shy to be who i am, or experiment with other styles of fashion, it's only an identity. I think people should take their inspirations from music and show it in their clothes and see what creation they make."
Some people don't like telling other people what genre of music they like to listen to as in this generation you get judged a lot, and by listening to the 'wrong' type of music people would laugh at you or decide you're not 'cool' enough. So instead of being shy through the earphones they show it with the clothes they wear.
We all have a sterotypical mind which categories people's looks into the genre of music they listen to. For example if an individual liked to listen to rock music we would automatically sterrotype them into wearing dark, edgy clothes which represents a rebellion and unique colourful hair which would stand them out of a crowd. Or individuals who listen to 'Goth Rock' we would associate them wearing all black, dark hair, dark makeup, black fingernails and would categorise them as a 'Goth'.
Another individual we spoke to shared their views on this and told us how the music influences them.
"I follow what my favourite artist wears on a regualr basis, I fell like if i am inspired by their music then to feel more comfortable and feel like i fit in with society then i should copy and style they wear to feel closer to my role model. Music opens a lot of different styles and ways to wear certain clothes and gives you a really unique way to show your individual style in this generation. People are finding it more easy to experiment with what they wear and trying new things out as there isn't a set trend which all the artists are doing then we feel like its more acceptable to wear whatever we want to represent ourselves.
Most artists don't like to follow trends and are usually up for trying new things and making a statement so from a fan's point we feel it's ok to be different and to try out new things; yeah some things might not go as well as you planned but it's trial and error. Nothing is ever wrong it's just experimenting. I feel like music has made me the style icon i am today."
Music seems to have a lot of influence in an individual's appearance and set trends worldwide. In this society no one wants to be the same we all want our own unique identity which inspires other people with what they wear and makes a statement to the world.
Keep getting inspiration from your favourite artists and never be afraid to try something new.
